Bright beginnings for Andrew Sibbald School's Kindergarteners

Week of October 21 - October 24

This week has been full of Kindergarten Kindness, Impressive Ideas, and Noteworthy Niceness!

In math we made estimations about our pumpkins. Ask me if I thought the pumpkin would sink or float when put into water. Ask me which pumpkin I thought would have the most seeds.  Ask me how many seeds you I thought would be in the smallest pumpkin, medium pumpkin, largest pumpkin.  Ask me how many lines I thought each pumpkin had.

We then explored and recorded some of our discoveries in our visual journal. Ask me how many lines were on pumpkin #1, #2 & #3. Ask me if my guesses were close to the real answer. Ask me what I used to measure the pumpkin's height and width.

We worked on the sounds "K" "I" & "N" this week. Ask me what sounds those letters make. Ask me to tell you a word that starts with that sound.  Ask me to tell a word that ends with that sound. Based on the letter sounds we have been exploring, our kinders have the phonetic awareness  to read the following words:
  • in, up
  • ink, kin, nip, pin, pup
  • pump, pink
  • and of course, pumpkin
Halloween Thursday, October 31
Kinders are invited to dress up as long as their costumes don’t interfere with their learning and the costumes are school appropriate (no masks, no weapons, no blood and gore etc). We will have a Halloween parade at 10:00 am whereby our kindergarten friends will parade around the outside of the learning commons while the rest of the school looks on from their respective classrooms. Please do not send your child to school with extra candy on this day or the week thereafter as it will affect their learning and behavior.
