This week we focused on speaking up when someone does something we don't like. Ask me what it looks like when I speak up. "Mrs.S, I don't like it when you push ahead of me in line. Please stop." "Mrs. S, I don't like it when you talk over me during carpet time. Please stop." Please encourage your child to solve their own social conflicts. Encourage them to use their words during a problem instead of coming to you to solve it.
1. Eye Contact and Name- (face the person you are talking to and say their name)
2. "I Message" - (I don't like it when ...)
3. Call to Action- (Please Stop.)
We changed our classroom jobs this week to learn a new responsibility. Ask me what my new job is. Ask me who I am working alongside. This first switch in classroom responsibilities seems to be very successful right off the bat. Keep up the great work Kinders!
In Literacy we continued with our Letter Inquiry. Your child now has the phonetic awareness to tell you what sound the letters E, F, G & H make. Ask me what sound the letter /E/ /F/ /G/ /H/ make. Ask me to tell you a word starts with that sound. Ask me to write both upper and lower case versions of each letter.
In Math we worked on counting forward and backward from 1 to 10. We have become confident and comfortable with doing this. Ask me to count from 1 to 10. Ask me to count to 9, starting from 2. Ask me to count backwards from 10 to 1. Ask me to count backwards from 9 and stop at 3. Our kinder friends will AMAZE you with their skills!
Veteran's Food Drive - Kindergarten Initiative
Dear Families,
As Christmas Spirit begins to fill the air, our school is preparing to support a very special initiative with the Veteran’s Food Bank. Students in our school are continually learning about and experiencing empathy, kindness, well-being and ‘Filling Buckets’ for others, which makes this a perfect opportunity to take these wonderful traits outside of our building. Kindergarten students have taken on this initiative and are super excited to spread kindness.
Non-perishable food items will be accepted from Monday, December 2nd until Wednesday, December 18th. Donations will also be accepted at both Christmas concerts (Dec. 17 and Dec. 18). The food donation boxes will be located in the main hallway near the music room.

25 Things Kids with ADHD Wished Their Parents & Teachers Knew About ADHD
Nov. 27, 2019 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Most parents of kids and adolescents who have ADHD try very hard to be compassionate and understanding of the nature of ADHD and its various effects on behaviour, mood, academic performance, and so on. What we can all forget, sometimes, is that somewhere in there is a kid who understands ADHD better than anyone else. This presentation is based on hundreds of conversations with kids with ADHD and their response to the basic – but critically important – question “What do you wish others knew about you and your ADHD?” Using their own words is a great place to engage in truly understanding the condition and developing more effective ways to work with kids, adolescents, and young adults who have ADHD while also framing the symptoms in a much more positive manner, so the focus is on strengths as opposed to focusing on the negative effects of ADHD. Strategies developed in collaboration with kids with ADHD will also be discussed.
Conflict Between Separated Parents and Its Effect on Your Children
Nov. 27, 2019 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM
This presentation will discuss how and my parents find themselves fighting with each other after they separate and the serious short- and long-term effects parents' conflict can have on their children.
ADHD & Executive Functioning *also available via webinar*
Nov. 27, 2019 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
This session will be an overview of ADHD and how issues with impulsivity and/or inattention impact children's ability to manage their environments. The session will also explore the impact ADHD has on Executive Functioning and how it relates to managing everyday tasks, and meeting daily expectations at home and at school, including social, emotional, behavioural and academic demands.
Taming Anxiety Gremlins
Jan. 30, 2020 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Anxiety is at epidemic levels among children and teens. This workshop will promote parent and teachers' understanding of anxiety and teach them how traditional ways of offering help may unwittingly feed into the child's worries and associated behaviours. Participants will learn effective tools to help children manage their anxiety to promote their resilience and overall well-being.
