Week of February 3 to February 7

What a snow-tacular week we have had!

We continued with our snow inquiry.  Ask me what experiment we did with snow.  Ask me how much water was left from the full cup of snow once it melted.  Ask me what takes up more space - water or snow.  Ask me how many sides a snowflake has.  Ask me what snowflakes are made out of.  Ask me if all snowflakes are the same. We are going to experiment with ice on Friday with should make for a pretty cool day! * Friday pictures to be posted*

We continued to heavily focus on showing the same number in different ways this week. Ask me to show you all the different ways I can represent you 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. Ask me to show you all the different "math" (equations) I can make to get that number. Ask me to show you the same number, in different ways using my hands.

We learned about healthy and unhealthy food this week. Ask me why we need food. Ask me what healthy foods do to my body. Ask me what unhealthy foods do to my body. Ask me what group I was in and what foods we picked to put on our poster. Ask me who was in my group. Our classroom jobs changed this week.  Ask me what my job around the classroom for the next 2 weeks is.

We experienced Kananaskis in the classroom this week with a school-wide assembly on Rodents. Ask me the different rodents we learned about.  Ask me what I learned.  Ask me what I found funny.  Ask me what my favourite part was.

Toys/Gadgets/KnickKnacks/Coins
There has been an influx of Kinders bringing toys/play things from home into the classroom the past few weeks. This has caused a lot of conflict, emotional outbursts and distractions.  I am going to kindly ask that toys, cars, LOLz, etc and so on, be kept at home. This message does not apply to: show and tell presenters (items live in their backpacks **the item may come out at snacktime**) AND/OR if your child carries with them a special charm to help them with homesickness.

Valentine's Day Card Exchange
As voted by parents, we will be having our Valentine's Day card exchange on Wednesday, February 12th at school.  There are now 20 children in our class as we welcome a new addition to our school family on Monday - a little boy named Henry we got to meet for a moment this past Monday.  Recommendation - address your child's valentine's day cards in a general way such as "To: My Friend" to increase ease of distribution.

Volunteers Needed
We will be requiring some volunteers for events happening in the next 3 months. Stacey Ceuric, our lead Room 1 parent volunteer coordinator sent out SignUp Genius links to those that have been cleared to volunteer with the CBE.  If you are interested, have clearance and didn't receive the email(s) from Stacey, please reach out to me.
