Hello Families!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

Literacy
We continue to work on drawing our thoughts and ideas in our visual journals. We always write our name and are learning to write using uppercase and lowercase letters. This week we read a story and then had to draw what we predicted would happen next. Ask your child what they thought would happen next in the story about Thanksgiving dinner at the Tappletons where their dinner disappeared

Math

We practiced drawing different shapes, colouring within the lines and cutting around our shapes. Ask your child what part they found the most difficult or the easiest. Scissor skills are important in Kindergarten and life. Practice at home is important!

Elder Shirley - AM Kinder

We had two days with our resident artist Elder Shirley Hill. On our first day together we learned how to count from 1 to 10.  We learned the Blackfoot words to animals and how to say common phrases.  Ask me to show you "Beaver" and "Bison" in sign language. We also learned about the Buffalo Jump. Ask me to explain what a Buffalo Jump is. Ask me what the Blackfoot Tribe used the Buffalo for. We were also lucky enough to learn traditional ways of moving our bodies. On the second day we danced using the dancing sticks and hoops.

Sign Language
We have been learning some sign language to help us in the classroom. Ask your child to show you: stop, quiet, sit, toilet wait.

Walking Field Trip - Fish Creek Park
POSTPONED until Thursday, October 17, 2019. Same times as previously stated.  PM families, if anyone has clearance and is able to attend the walking field trip, please let me know.

Pumpkins Wanted
We will be starting our pumpkin inquiry after Thanksgiving and would appreciate two pumpkin donations (one for AM and one of PM classes) so we can carve them on Halloween. We would also love a few small pumpkins for our tables.

Reminders

Winter
Please ensure your child has snow pants, a hat and mittens every day as we tend to go outside.

Toys

We know our kiddos love their toys, but please keep them at home. We would hate for them to get lost or broken.

Extra clothing

Please ensure your child has an extra set of clothing in their backpack. This is helpful in the event they have an accident at school or get wet/muddy while playing outside.

Here are some highlights from our week:
