Week of October 7 - October 10

What a wonderful week of exploration and discovery we have had!

We have continued working on our fine motor skills this week with animal stencils, with Bingo Dabber Letter Games and Bingo Dabber Shapes. Ask me what was my favourite activity and who I worked with.

We went on a short Autumn Scavenger Hunt around the school to help prepare our senses (sight, smell, touch, hearing) for our Field Trip to Fish Creek. Ask me what we looked for. Ask me what we smelled. Ask me what we touched or felt. Ask me what we heard. Unfortunately, due to the weather we had to postpone our walking field trip to THURSDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2019.

We had two days with our resident artist Elder Shirley Hill. On our first day together we learned how to count from 1 to 10 in Siksika.  We learned the Blackfoot words to animals and how to say common phrases.  Ask me to show you "Beaver" and "Bison" in sign language. We also learned about the Buffalo Jump. Ask me to explain what a Buffalo Jump is. Ask me what the Blackfoot Tribe used the Buffalo for. We were also lucky enough to learn traditional ways of moving our bodies. Ask me what this colourful, feathered "stick" is and when/how we used it.  Ask me what we did with hula hoops. Ask me to tell you what animal(s) Elder Shirley made with her hoops.

Learning about the Buffalo Jump from Elder Shirley.

Blackfoot Horned Bonnet.  Warriors had to earn the privilege to wear it after many . It was worn with great pride. The horned bonnet can consist of a buckskin skull cap, shaved bison or cow horns, and dyed horsehair with bunches of owl feathers beneath the skull cap.
