Our exciting pumpkin inquiry has slowly drawn to a close with the carving of our one lone survivor - the 2 other pumpkins weren't so lucky as our kinder friends weren't as careful/gentle as they should have been with them. Ask me what happened when we put our pumpkins into water. Did they sink or float? Ask me which two shapes (heart and hexagon) won our class carving vote. Ask me how many seeds the pumpkin had (323) and how we counted (grouped) them as a class - we each counted ten = 190 in total and Mrs. S counted the rest.
In order for our class to run more smoothly, and fairly, classroom jobs have been introduced. Ask me what job I chose and what I am responsible for. Some of our new jobs are table wipers, snack openers, recycling duty, chair stacking, block duty, folder sorter, floor and carpet duty (which means if it's on the floor/carpet after centers it's my job to put it away) and many more! Our jobs will change every two weeks which gives us one week to get into the groove of our new responsibility and then another week to master it!
STEM Challenge
This week we read Ten Timid Ghosts - a story about a witch who moved into a her haunted house and scared away all the ghosts who lived there. We were challenged to build our ghost friend a house he could fit inside standing up. Ask me if I worked with as a team or by myself. Ask me what materials I chose to build with. Ask me if I built it again, would I choose the same materials?
Communication Folders
Please check and empty your child's folder daily as it showcases some of their work. This is a great opportunity to connect home and school life by engaging with artifacts from their day. Immediately after emptying it, have your child pack it into their backpacks themselves to further encourage responsibility, independence and accountability. "My mom forgot my folder" will no longer be a viable excuse.
Picture Day
Orders Due - Monday, November 4th
Individual and class pictures were sent home this week with your child. Please note that since our pictures went home on Monday, and not last Friday like the rest of the school, our division has been granted an extension for picture day ordering. If you will be ordering pictures via the school please have your orders in by MONDAY, NOVEMBER 4. If you are ordering online, you have a few months to do so and they will be sent directly to your home. Picture Day retakes are on Wednesday, November 13.
