Week of September 30 - October 3

What a wonderfully heartwarming, yet physically chilly week we have had!

Orange Shirt day was a lovely opportunity for our friends to start gaining an understand of Indigenous culture. Our friends got to meet Elder Shirley and her helper Lemon.  Ask me who Lemon is. Ask me to show you "Moose" in sign language. Ask me what the oil that Elder Shirley shared with us smelt like. We will continue to work with her Monday, October 7 and Wednesday October 9.

In gym, we learned the basics of soccer.  Ask me what skills we focused on this week with soccer and what are things we need to learn before playing the game.

In language, we have continued our work with our fine motor skills. We continued with writing our name and working on the names of our other friends when we are done.  Ask me to show you how I write my name.

In math we continued our work with patterns, sorting and have slowly introduced shapes.  Ask me what shapes I used to make my Shape Scarecrow. Some of our friends have really gotten into a game on ABCya during our math stations.  Feel free to have them play it at home.  The game is educational and free. Talk about a win/win!

During our first Spirit Assembly of the year, our wonderful Grade 6 students surprised our Kindergarten friends with painted rocks. Rocks are a beautiful symbol of endurance, stability and strength- all qualities needed to excel in school, but most importantly, in life.  Thank you to all our Grade 6 friends for the beautiful gifts made with love. Thank you to all those families that were able to join us for the assembly- our Kinders loved seeing you at school. A special thank you also goes out to our Parent Council for supplying our school with new green Andrew Sibbald School shirts.

Picture Day:
Picture Day is on Monday, October 7th. I can't wait to see everyone with their best smiles on.

Volunteering:
A mass email was sent out to all parents regarding volunteering and the 3 steps needed to attain proper clearance with the CBE. If this is something you are interested in please complete all 3 steps.  Stacey Ceuric has volunteered to be our Room Parent for the year who will help with some organizing and logistics around volunteers. Thank you Stacey!

Walking Field Trip:
We will be going on a walking field trip on Thursday, October 10th from 8:30 - 10:00.  Please make sure that your child is wearing weather appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes for walking.  If you have all THREE steps completed for Volunteering and would like join us. We would love to have you! Please sign up by clicking this link:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70a0e4badae2aa0fd0-mrs

Winter Clothes:
Please have your child pick out clothes that are weather appropriate and items that they can put on themselves independently. Labeling the inside of mittens/hats might be helpful in preventing misplacement/loss as we have many of the same designs/styles.  Feel free to have them practice putting on their snow pants, jackets, boots, hats and mittens without your help.

Pumpkins:
I am looking for 1 "smaller medium" sized pumpkin donation.  I am planning to use the week leading up to Thanksgiving and Halloween with a hands on, inquiry based unit focused on pumpkins and I am super pumped to see all the discovery, exploration and learning in store for us. I will also be accepting gourds. If this is something you would be interested in providing - please email me at your earlier convenience at hesiarkiewicz@cbe.ab.ca
