Remembrance Day Assembly
We will be having our Remembrance Day Assembly tomorrow at 10:30am. PM Kinders will be presenting the poem: "Little Poppy". All Kinders have learned this song and have participated in making the art displays and wreath for the ceremony. Families and AM Kinders are welcome to join us for this assembly. If you would like to join us, please bring your child to our classroom for 10:15am. We will all sit together in the gym. All students and guests in service (guides, brownies, scouts, etc) are encouraged to wear their service uniforms.
Literacy
This week we focused on:
- Remembrance Day
- What Peace means and ways to demonstrate peace
- Poppies: the parts of poppies, what they symbolize, where they grow and how to draw them
- Learning the words to O Canada and the Poem: "Little Poppy"
- Our word for November: "Remember". We have learned and practiced the letter names and sounds for 'r', 'e' and 'm'.
- Making templates for our classroom Alphabet using loose parts
- Sorting letters by their line type and if they have a hole or no hole.
Next week we will be creating large alphabet tiles for our walls. If you have any small loose part items that could be glued to a cardboard letter, please send them in with your child. Examples include shells, erasers, beans, pasta, etc. These items will not be returned.
Math
We have begun talking about problem-solving and open-ended questions. Ask your child what an open-ended problem is.
We continue to work on counting and number recognition. It is so important to have your child count everything possible. Have them count the number of vegetables on their plate, the number of shoes at the door, or the number of stairs in your house. The more they count the quicker it will be for them to recall these numbers and see connections between the number and its quantity.

Fine Motor
We continue to work on Fine Motor Skills every day in the classroom. This might be practiced by ripping paper for our Poppy art, pinching tissue paper for our wreath, using play-dough to make poppies or colouring using broken crayons to ensure we are building the small muscles in our hands. These small muscles are used when we write or draw and need to be strong to help with control.
