Week of November 25 - November 28

What a beautiful and joyful week of learning we have had!

I wanted to start by saying that conferences were a complete success. Thank you to everyone for coming out and talking about your wonderful child; I had such a great time connecting with all of you. Thank you for the past 3 months of support, kind words and love. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to learn and grow alongside your child. I am surrounded by such remarkable little humans. The future is so bright for all my kindergarten friends and I am so lucky to be a part of the beginning of their journey!

In Literacy we continued our work with letter sounds. Ask me the sound that Ii and Jj make. Ask me to tell you a word that starts with ANY letter sound from A-J. I think it is very important to review so we spent lots of time this week making sure we know what sounds belong to which letters.

In Math we went back to review what patterns are as some of our friends had forgotten.  Ask me to make a sound pattern for you.  Ask me to create a colour pattern/ shape pattern.

We were lucky this week to have participated in a STEM challenge with our grade 5/6 buddies.  Ask me what we designed (a maze made of LEGO, so that a marble could travel across the LEGO board from one side to the other). Ask me how I helped or what my job was during the challenge. Ask me what was my favourite part. Ask me if we had any extra features (like a bridge the marble had to go under, or steps the marble had to roll down)  Ask me if our maze worked right away or if we had to change something so the marble could roll through.

We were lucky enough to experience an in-school field trip this week. Scientist in the School was a hit with our kindergarten friends.  We had such an engaging day filled with exploration, discovery and learning. Ask me what my favourite station was.  Ask me who was in my group.  Ask me what I found most challenging.  A massive Thank You goes out to the parent volunteers who were able to join us. We couldn't have done it without you!

Upcoming Field Trip - Glenbow Museum - Volunteers Needed
We will be going to the Glenbow Museum and are looking for 5 volunteers to come with us on Friday, January 17 from 8:00am - 12:00pm.  If you are interested and available, please keep an eye out for the Sign Up Genius or directly email Stacey Cueric (Blake's Mom - our Room 1 Room Parent) at stacey_ceuric@hotmail.com . General information regarding this field trip and permission forms will be sent home within the coming weeks.

Kindergarten Kindness Campaigns

Veteran's Food Drive
Beginning Monday, December 2, we will be collecting non-perishable food items for our Veteran's Food Drive. We will collect the food in our classroom until Dec 17. For the Holiday Concert evenings of December 17th and 18th we will have large boxes by the front doors so families can drop off food before watching the performances. On top of the already amazing reason for participating in this food drive, we will be using the food to sort, make patterns, discuss different 3D shapes and learn more about healthy vs. unhealthy food choices. We would love to have your support!

Cards for our Troops
We are participating in Operation Tiny Troops this holiday season and writing/making cards which will be sent to our troops to thank them for their service.  We have started making these cards with our big buddies this week. If you have any extra Christmas or holiday cards at home, we would love to use them in our kindergarten collaboration for this project.
