Week of December 9 - December 13

Tis the season for kindness and helpfulness!

Our week was spent being kind and helpful to each other and around the school. Helpy, the Elf, made sure we were on task! Ask me what Helpy asked me to do this week. (compliment a friend; sit next to someone you haven't sat next to before; perform a job around the classroom without being asked; make a new friend in our class by asking them something about themselves; sorting the food donations)

In Literacy, we continued our Alphabet Inquiry. Ask me the sounds Qq, Rr, Ss, Tt, **Uu & Vv make (** to be covered on Friday). Ask me to tell you a word that starts with any of those sounds. We also started playing with word sounds and syllables. Tell me a word, ask me to clap out the syllables for you. Ask me how many I heard. "Di-no-saur-us Rex" and gau-ca-mol-e are our favourites so far. Syllables are the building blocks of words and a precursor to reading. All of our kindergarten friends love clapping and stomping out the sounds.

We had a special visitor come into our classroom at the beginning of our week. Ask me who came to visit (police officer). Ask me what kind of tools a police officer wears on them at all times (radio, pen and paper, badge, cell phone, uniform) Ask me tools a police officer and I have in common (eyes, ears, nose, mouth and brain.) Ask me what I learned about police cars. Ask me what I learned or remembered most from the visit.

We had the pleasure of collaborating with our big buddies to make beautiful holiday art. Our hard work will be displayed in the gym so check it out when you come to see the concert. Ask me what I made with my buddy. Ask me how we made it. Ask me what colours I picked.

We were lucky enough to explore the outdoors like true Canadians.  Ask me what we did.  Ask me what was the hardest part.  Ask me if I needed help putting on the snowshoes.  Ask me if I would do it again.
