As a wrap up of our Glenbow trip last week, we created our own mini-museum complete with 4 galleries. Ask me what the theme of my gallery was. Ask me what my favourite part of our class trip was.
This week was filled with answering questions to our Dinosaur Inquiry. Ask me what dinosaurs ate and how I can tell if they are a carnivore or a herbivore just by looking at them. Ask me where Dinosaurs lived. Ask me to tell you where dinosaurs have their babies. Ask me to tell you what baby dinosaurs looked like. We used Dinosaurs in Math this week by using different manipulatives to measure and count how long and tall they are. Ask me which dinosaur I measured. Ask me what I choose to measure it with. Ask me how many tall and how many long the dinosaur was. We became chemists this week by experimenting with baking soda and vinegar to hatch some dinosaur eggs. Ask me what my dino egg clue was. Ask me what I saw and heard when I added vinegar to the baking soda dino egg. Ask me what happened when I poured the vinegar on, instead of using an eyedropper. Ask me if my dinosaur guess was right.
We have started to become artifact aficionados by sharing personal items via Show and Tell. This is a fabulous way to practice our talking and listening skills with our peers. This is also a great way to share a part of our home life with our friends at school. Thank you to the families that have been able to send in family photos - those will be lovingly displayed within our classroom to foster a sense of community and is meant to connect our home and school life.
Library Books
We went to our in-school library for the first time this week. Students are welcome to take books out as soon as they are returned. Being an in-school library, there isn't a true "due date" - although I have told students that they should be able to enjoy a book and bring it back in a week. If you do not want your child to participate in library book exchanges - please send me an email and I will gladly accommodate.
Spirit Day - Twin Day with a Twist
On Thursday, January 30th we will be having a school-wide Spirit Day as chosen by our newly formed student council. Students are encouraged to come dressed in their best "twinning" gear. Ideas for this could be coming to school dressed similar to a classmate, favourite character, sports player, pop star, piece of fruit. The most creative "twins" will be featured on the student council board near the office.
Valentine's Day Cards
Based on the poll, you voted FOR distributing cards in class. Thank you to all of the families who voted and shared their opinion. Recommendation: If you would like to participate, please make/create/purchase cards and label the cards with "To: My Friend" instead of a specific child's name. Send the cards with your child on Wednesday, Feb 12. It is imperative that enough cards are made for each student in our class. We have 19 students in our class. We will distribute them on Wednesday, Feb 12. We will make Valentine's bags in class that week. Please do not send treats/food/sweets with the cards.
