This week we focused on rhyming. After reading 'Wocket in my Pocket' we got to name our own creatures. Later in the week, we searched for the hidden creatures around the classroom and recorded our answers. Ask me the name of my creature. Ask me what item around the classroom it rhymed with. Ask me what the names of some of the creatures I found hidden around the classroom were. We read a story about a mitten that was stretched out by a group of animals after it was lost in the snow. Ask me what happened to the mitten in the story. Ask me what I drew when I got to make my own story. Ask me what could fit in my mitten.
We heavily focused on showing the same number in different ways this week. Ask me to show you all the different ways I can represent you 1, 2 and 3. Ask me to show you all the equations I can make to get that number.
In music, Mrs. Harris surprised us by inviting her son and his friends to show us how different instruments look and sound. Ask me what the difference is between a woodwind and a brass. Ask me if a saxophone is a woodwind or a brass instrument. Ask me which sound was my favourite and why.
We changed our focus from dinosaurs to winter/snow this week. Ask me why we need to wear different clothes for different seasons. Ask me why we dress in layers in Winter. Ask me what temperature water freezes at. Ask me how long it takes for our skin to freeze starting at - 17. Ask me how long it takes for our skin to start to freeze at - 40. We experimented with water and the cold. Ask me what water vapour is. Ask me why we can see it in the winter, but not in the summer. Ask me what clouds are made out of. Ask me what happened to the water level after we boiled it, took it outside, let it cool down and then measured the amount of water we had left.
Show and Tell has been an absolute hit! All students are engaged and curious about the artifacts that are being shared with them. Thank you to everyone for sending in family photos - our classroom is going to feel so cozy when we get all the pictures up!
Valentine's Day Cards
Recommendation: If you would like to participate, please make/create/purchase cards and label the cards with "To: My Friend" instead of a specific child's name. Send the cards with your child on Wednesday, Feb 12. It is imperative that enough cards are made for each student in our class. We have 19 students in our class. We will distribute them on Wednesday, Feb 12. We will make Valentine's bags in class that week. Please do not send treats/food/sweets with the cards.
