Week of February 24 to February 28

What an uplifting week we have had!

In literacy, we continued with rhyming and looking for patterns in words and sounds. Ask me to create rhyming words for you. Ask me to identify rhyming word - cat, bag, mat - which word rhymes.

In math, we continued with numbers and different ways we can make 10. Ask me the different ways I made 10, using animal feet.  ie. 1 dog (4 feet), 1 cat (2 feet) and flamingo (2 feet) **although we did have some a friend and think outside the box by used a flamingo to symbolize 1 foot - "one leg is up, and one leg is down and we can't see it. That's how I drew it too." - M.R. You're right, I won't argue with justifiable logic.

In preparation for the Art Residency happening next week in our class, we spent time diving into Albertan animals. Ask me what animal group I was in. Ask me what my animal eats. Ask me where my animal lives. Ask me what my animal does in the winter. Ask me what adaptations my animal has and why that is useful to them.

Pink Shirt Day was a huge success! The focus for 2020 is "lift each other up" - I hope that as a class, we can continue to nourish each others hearts every day we are together. Ask me what it means to lift someone up. Ask me what I did this week to lift up a classmate. Ask me what kind words or thoughts I shared.

One more volunteer is needed for an upcoming walking trip to Fish Creek *weather permitting* on Wednesday, March 11. Student-Led Conferences

Conferences are happening Thursday, March 19, 2020. This set of conferences will be student-led which means that you attend with your child as they will be leading you through set up stations around the classroom and school. Your child will have a number of activities and artifacts of student work to share with you as a celebration of their learning. You will sign up for a 30-minute time slot.  Please note that there will be other children and families in the classroom at the same time.

Playdough Sign Up
Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to make playdough throughout the school year. Our last round of playdough signup as officially arrived.

Below is the link for dates starting Monday, March 30th through the end of the school year. A massive thank you goes out to all past, present and future playdough producers.

Please involve your child during the playdough making process.  Have them measure out the ingredients with you.  Have them help you knead the dough. Feel free to experiment with colour. Here is a fabulous recipe for playdough from a parent whose playdough turned out great during the first term. https://www.iheartnaptime.net/play-dough-recipe/ **double this recipe**

With regards to how much playdough is required, please note that the amount made is split between the kindergarten classrooms - 2 medium or 1 large Ziploc bag is what we are looking for (approximately 2 large yogurt containers worth).
