Hello Families,

Thank you!
Volunteers! We couldn't do it without you! Thank you for coming into our classroom and helping with jobs around the room, working with students and assisting with our Radiant Art residency.

Walking Field Trip
Currently, it is icy on the path down into Fish Creek Park so we have an alternate plan if it continues to be icy next week. We will still be walking through our community and looking for signs of Winter. Please ensure your child wears proper outdoor walking footwear and snow pants.

I Belong
Ms. R has started a new unit in our classes focusing on the theme "I Belong". We have talked about what it means to "belong", who/what we belong to (families, Andrew Sibbald School, soccer teams etc.) and our responsibilities. Ask your child who/what they belong to and some of their responsibilities. Ask your child how they represented their responsibilities to our class.

Math
This week we have spent time exploring dominoes and counting the dots to match it with the corresponding number. We have also been working with 2D and 3D shapes. Ask your child the difference between a 2D shape and a 3D shape. Ask your child to point out 3D shapes around your house.

Centres
One of the centres we had this week was drawing Alberta animals, like a scientist. We are learning to look at the shape of the animal body and look at its colours when drawing it. Ask your child the difference between drawing like a scientist and drawing like an artist.

Leprechaun Traps

With our Grade 5/6 buddies, we will be making leprechaun traps leading up to St. Patrick's Day. We are looking for some supplies to make these successful.

Supplies needed:
  • ·       Green stickers
  • ·       Anything sparkly
  • ·       Gold coins
  • ·       Green paper
  • ·       Shamrocks
  • ·       Plastic containers to catch a leprechaun
  • ·       Pipe cleaners
  • ·       Shoe boxes
Calgary Reads: The Children's Reading Place
The Children’s Reading Place is about spreading the joy of reading throughout our community. It’s based on the simple idea that if you create a comfortable, fun space for children to read, they will. And when that happens, their imaginations are ignited and their confidence grows.
We’ve transformed a heritage house in Calgary’s Inglewood neighbourhood into a welcoming hub of reading where school groups and families can come to experience the pleasure of curling up with a good book.
Children can read on their own or enjoy a story read aloud by a parent, caregiver, Reader in Residence or House Mother. They can also choose a free book to take home and keep.
The Children’s Reading Place is open Thursday to Saturday by appointment only.
