Week of March 2 to March 5

Wow! Another great week has quickly come and gone!

We had our Radiant Art Residency with Rebecca Ellison this week.  Thank you to all the volunteers that came out and help us make some beautiful art.  Ask me what we did on the first day. Ask me how we warmed the clay.  Ask me what animal we voted for as a class (wolf). Ask me what kind of pattern I made to decorate my part. Ask me what animal imprint I chose on our second day. Ask me what I used to decorate my print. Ask me what was the toughest part.  If you are interested in checking out the artist, you can find more information on her website. Thank you Rebecca for the awesome week we had together! http://koken.radiantart.ca/

In literacy, we have continued with rhyming and wordplay.  Our kinders are getting really into finding patterns with words and are starting to point out if words on the board during our regular day have the same letter endings. We are started writing prompts in the morning to get our creative juices flowing. Ask me: If a genie granted you one wish, what would you wish for.  Ask me: If you had a team of snowmen help you build something, what would you build? Ask me: If you had a magic carpet, where would you fly, and what would you do?

In math, it was all about shapes, shapes and more shapes this week. Ask me what shapes I used to draw a story. Ask me what shapes I found when we went on a scavenger hunt around the school.  Ask me what shapes I made with my body during physical education. Ask me to name some shapes we find within letters.

Fish Creek - Walking Field Trip - Wednesday, March 11
It is very icy on the walking path down into Fish Creek Park. We are looking into different options for our field trip next week and will keep you posted if anything changes. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility. Please ensure your child has a BIG breakfast on Wednesday morning as we will not have snack until we return to the school at around 10:30.

Student-Led Conferences
Conferences are happening Thursday, March 19, 2020. This set of conferences will be student-led which means that you attend with your child as they will be leading you through set up stations around the classroom and school. Your child will have a number of activities and artifacts of student work to share with you as a celebration of their learning. You will sign up for a 30-minute time slot.  Please note that there will be other children and families in the classroom at the same time. Registration opens up on Monday morning at 6am.

Communication Folders
If your child has lost their home communication folder, please reach out to me and I will work on getting them a replacement. About half of the class is either missing or forgetting their folders on a daily basis. Folders are meant for communication purposes between you and me, to send work we did at school home, as well as meant to teach our Kinders responsibility.

Toys/Gadgets/KnickKnacks/Coins/Stuffies
There continues to be an influx of Kinders bringing toys from home into the classroom the past few weeks. This has caused a lot of conflicts, outbursts, and distractions. I am going to kindly ask that toys, cars, LOLz, pokemon cards etc and so on, be kept at home. Going forward, I will start confiscating items until the end of the day as the items are NOT being kept in backpacks and are causing many issues.

Playdough Sign Up
Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to make playdough throughout the school year. Our last round of playdough signup as officially arrived.

Below is the link for dates starting Monday, March 30th through the end of the school year. A massive thank you goes out to all past, present and future playdough producers.

Please involve your child during the playdough making process.  Have them measure out the ingredients with you.  Have them help you knead the dough. Feel free to experiment with colour. Here is a fabulous recipe for playdough from a parent whose playdough turned out great during the first term. https://www.iheartnaptime.net/play-dough-recipe/ **double this recipe**

With regards to how much playdough is required, please note that the amount made is split between the kindergarten classrooms - 2 medium or 1 large Ziploc bag is what we are looking for (approximately 2 large yogurt containers worth).
